Interview:Chandler Poling
Heroes Set Decorator and Real-life Hero Tauren
On the 26th of June 2009 LotsofInterviews.com conducted an interview with Chandler Poling who use to work as the set decoration coordinator on Heroes for seasons 1-3 and is now working in public relations with CW3 PR. He is also co-creator of the superhero website www.luckylegendary.com. He is known for his twittering as "@taurenlegend", LotsofInterviews.com would like to thank Mr Poling for his time.
For anyone who might not know, what is luckylegendary.com?
Lucky Legendary is a superhero production company dedicated
to the super team, The Legends. Showcasing the adventures of Captain Lucky, Tauren, Justice, Leawyn, Star Stud and Mystic Jade, the Legends fight to protect the innocent with their special comedy, laugh-out loud humour and pop-culture exploitation. We're known for our weekly web comic and our live action web series.
And who is your character?
My character is Tauren. He is the quiet, grumpy, gadget-guy of the group.
How did the site come about?
My co-creator and I conceived the idea due to our love of comic books and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We love the mixture of comedy, horror and adventure.
Who is it who draws the comics?
Our resident artist is Shaun "Spanky" Peila. He is a fantastic illustrator and close friend of mine. His work can also be seen in the independent comic book, Pride High (http://www.pridecomics.org)
What kind of things are you involved with running Lucky
Legendary?
Running Lucky Legendary is a daunting task. Besides writing
and directing all the content on the site (characters, bios, web
comic, web series, etc), I also have to juggle six schedules for
each actor who embodies the characters. Our fantastic acting
team - Jennifer Wenger, Michelle Prenez, Nico Lombardo and
Tiffany Thomas - all have busy lives, so to coordinate everyone
into a video production or public appearance is a task.
What does Lucky Legendary do?
Lucky Legendary is involved with the community and delivering
the positive message "you too can be a hero!" Besides our red
carpet appearances and public entertainment, we like to assist charities and foundations that are looking for superhero support. Most notably our central character, Captain Lucky, is a gay superhero leading the team. We specifically chose a gay-central character to reach out to LGBT youth and try to shine a positive light on gay media characters.
You used to work on Heroes as a prop master, how did you get into this line of work?
I actually was the Set Decoration Coordinator for Seasons 1 through 3. Ross Anderson is the magnificent prop master and I would never wish to have his job. Ever.
I got into working in the Art Department through a series of Independent Feature Films ("Shadow Puppets", "Bone Dry", "9 Lives of Mara") and with that experience and connections I made, I was able to score a position on "HEROES" before it even hit big. I feel lucky to have gotten to know everyone before the shadow of success struck the show.
What was it like working on the show?
Working on the show was an honour. To be a part of something like "Heroes" is once in a lifetime.
