Interview:Khoi Pham Mighty Avengers #22

On the 24th of March 2009 LotsofInterviews.com conducted the second in a row of interviews with Kohi Pham on the most recent issue of his Mighty Avengers series, issue #22, which he is the artist for. Hope you enjoy!

On the cover of this issue there are the characters Herc, Iron Man and US Agent, was it good for you getting to draw Herc again?

Yeah, Herc brings good memories, so glad to have him on the team.

Do you think it was easier having drawn him before to draw him again?

Oh, totally. plus, facial hair makes everything easier.

Yeah. Was it harder to draw a character like US Agent who isn't really as big as the other characters in the team?

Nah. he was pretty easy. i just pretend he's captain america, but all roided up.

Yeah I havn't really read anything with him in before and he does seem pretty cool.

I never liked him before.

Oh how come?

I just though he was too one dimensional as a primary character, but as part of an ensemble, the ridiculousness of his Captain America love works pretty well.

You also draw the Vatican in this issue, did you have to do a lot of research into it's look or did you use your artistic lience?

I actually referenced those. From photos, though, so I'm sure I didn't quite capture it.

You also draw another shot of Heroes around the world fighting for their

lifes in this issue, who are the team in the middle?

Let's see... it's the Russian team, the Winter Guard.

I think this page will have helped you quite a lot in your compition to draw

the most Marvel characters with another 9 to add to your list, do you

know how your friend Reilly Brown is doing?

Reilly is actually taking over a book with a solo character (i'm not sure I can

tell), so he'll be eating my dust pretty soon. Right now he's doing Marvel Apes, though. does that count? We need to go over the rules. Because he's drawing everyone, but as primates. But i just finished up a short Spymaster story for marvel online.

Oh cool, one of the Dark Reign tie-ins?

Yeah, that sounds right.

Is the drawing of a online comic the same as a published one?

It is for me. [laughter], I actually inked and gray toned this one, too. I used Photoshop and everything.

I know an artist called Jason Badower who does a lot of that.

Many artists do it now. It's tough to hit monthly deadlines doing that, though, but i can do it. I just have to convince my editors....
