As part of our "Mighty Artist" feature, on the 10th of July 2009 LotsofInterviews.com conducted an interview with Stephen Segovia about his drawing of issues #25 and #26 of "The Mighty Avengers". We talk about how he got to draw these issues, his influences, designing aspects of the issues and what he is working on at the moment.
Avengers?
One time, Mr. Tom Brevoort (the Editor of MA) and Chris Allo
(Marvel’s talent coordinator) emailed me and they said that
I am going to do a fill in shots of Mighty Avengers issues. I
never thought that they will trust me to do such a great title
with a top notch writer like Dan Slot. Hoping I could draw
the title again...
Have you enjoyed your work on the series?
Absolutely! I have fun working on it.
Which artists do you think have influenced your style?
I think Leinil Yu and Mike Deodato. They are two of the best.
Vision’s collar is drawn very large in these issues along with
the women’s breasts, do you like drawing things larger than
life?
[laughter] I just like to draw it that way. For me, making vision's
collar a bit larger made him look cool, just like Spawn.
Regarding the woman's breast, I think drawing their boobs big
will look sexy and alluring. What else I can say, I am a guy! But
that's only my opinion...
Did you design the G.R.A.M.P.A. agent who appeared in issue
#25?
Yes I did. I went for an Asian black widow thing.
What did you base your design on “Salvation 2” on?
Dan told me that the Salvation 2 should look like a human heart with lots of veins except that it should be mechanical and only a little bit organic.
Are you working on any other series at the moment?
Right now, I am doing the Dark Wolverine arc. I started at issue #78.
