Interview:Mark Warshaw
Writer and Producer
On the 29th of May 2009 LotsofInterviews conducted a interview with Mark Warshaw who worked as a writer and producer on the shows 'Heroes' and Smallville' and he has done great work in interactive television on both of these shows. Hope you enjoy! LotsofInterviews.com would like to thank Mr Warshaw for his time and we hope you enjoy the interview!
As a Heroes Evolutions Producer on the TV Show Heroes what
did your job entail?
I was brought on the show in Season One to produce, coordinate, and develop the Heroes 360 concept and all the merchandising extensions (like the DVDs, action figures, "The Saving Charlie" novel, the Titan magazine, the mobile game, etc.). My work on Heroes ended in Nov 2007.
As the Create Your Hero was funded by Sprint, did they have some control over what happened with it or not?
We developed this idea hand-in-hand with NBC and Mindshare (the agency hired by Sprint). Every party played a big roll in it -- the show, the network, the brand, and the agency.
How cannon are the character back stories given in the Assignment Tracker 2.0?
As a rule, we tried to make everything in Heroes Evolutions part of the show canon. That was what made it unique. Because I was a producer on the actual series, we developed the stories hand-in-hand with the writers on the show.
Who is it who decides when the next Assignment Tracker is released and who it will be about?
When I was on the show, it was usually some variation of myself, Jesse Alexader, Jeph Loeb, Aron Colite and Joe Pokaski.
You wrote parts one and six of War Buddies, this was part of a huge arc which NBC did; did you have a part in creating the overall comic or just your two novels?
This was Aron Colite's idea for a story arc and I got to write chapters 1 and 6 and work with the rest of the
team to produce the arc.
I also liked the Nathan Petrelli Cameo, where did this idea
tcome from?
Aron's idea too. He's a genius.
tDid you have any word in the cameos by the online fans at the
tend of part 6 in the vortex?
Yep, that was something I wanted to do so we could let the fans
tknow that Heroes 360 was all about inviting them into the
tHeroes universe.
Do you know if the full Lonestar File’s are going to be
trevealed?
tIt should be one day, but again, not sure where they are going with Heroes these days.
You got to introduce Maya and Alejandro in the novel titled ‘Maya y Alejandro ‘, did you get to see any of the show with them in before you wrote it? Did you find it hard writing them since they had not appeared yet?
Some of their episodes had already been shot, so I went down to the editing room and watched the early cuts of their scenes before I wrote the comic introducing them to the series. I really enjoyed this project because I think introducing characters before they appear on the series is a great way to reward fans who experience the show through multiple platforms. It gives them a deeper storytelling experience.
