Interview: Tim Russ
Star Trek Voyager: Tuvok
On the 9th of December 2009 LotsofInterviews.com conducted a short interview with Tim Russ, who is best known for his role as Tuvok on Star Trek. We talk about his character's developlment, the new Star Trek movie, what he's been doing since Star Trek and his children's book "BUGSTERS".
How do you feel your character developed over the
course of the series? Would you of liked to see him
develop in a different way?
I think the writers came up with some very interesting stories for Tuvok that explored areas of his life as well as new concepts about Vulcans we didn't know about before.
What do you think of the new Star Trek film? Do you know if Tuvok would have been on Vulcan when it was destroyed?
No Tuvok wouldn't have been born at that time.. The movie was too early in the timeline I think... way before Tuvok was born.
I thought the movie was excellent! They were smart to give it a totally different look and feel then the earlier films and they drew in a whole new flock of fans I think.
What have you been doing since Voyager and are you working on anything at the moment?
I am currently voicing a character on a new upcoming Cartoon Network series called, "Sym-Bionic Titans" which airs Fall of 2010. I have directed two feature films in the last 2 years, one is called, "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men" which you should check out if you haven't already.. (www.startrekofgodsandmen.com). I'm looking forward to directing one of 4 independent features that are being deveoped right now.
You have written a children’s book called "BUGSTERS", can you tell us a bit about this book and how you came to write it?
I wrote and developed it with Jedda Roskilly, my daughters' mother a few years back. It was originally conceived as an audio book, and recently we've published by Woods N' Water Press, as a hardback with the audio book CD enclosed with the book. It's two short stories with songs, for children 3 to 7 years old that teaches basic character lessons. The characters are insects, and the audio book features voice work from myself, Ethan Phillis (Voyager) and Chase Masterson (DS9).
