Interview: X-Babies

Writer: Gregg Schigiel

Is this story in continuity?

With X-Babies stuff, that’s a tricky question because their

continuity, as it were, seems a bit all over the place. That said,

we’re not picking up from whatever the last/most recent

appearance of the X-Babies was, no. But it does take place on

Mojoworld and their general premise, as kid versions of the

X-Men created by Mojo to star in a top rated Mojo TV series,

that’s all part of this story. And Spiral’s in there too.

The story is also very self-contained, so...I guess it could be

compared to the recent LOCKJAW & THE PET AVENGERS

mini-series...which isn’t specifically out of continuity but also

isn’t deeply entrenched in it either. As far as I know none of the

issues of X-Babies will have a Dark Reign trade dress...the

X-Babies aren’t a Mojoworld faction of The Initiative...

Would you like to write more “X-Babies”?

In the process of writing this mini-series I’ve definitely had

some ideas and notions for potential future stories. But to say

anything more than that would be both premature and presumptuous. In the end a lot of the future for X-Babies and those of us working on the book really depends on how it’s received by the audience. But the series ends in a way that lends to a lot of potential and possibilities, for sure. Whether I get the opportunity to pursue and explore those, that’s to be determined.

But it’s been a lot of fun working on this book and I hope the enthusiasm Jacob and I have for it comes across on the pages and that readers feel it too.
