Oh, if only there was a process. Honestly, each
one ends up getting tackled a bit differently. In
general, it involves opening up a large photoshop
file, whittling down some thumbnails until they fit
together (layout-wise), and then figuring out how
the art should look. Within that period I'm kind of
writing as I go.
Do you have a favourite strip that you've done?
My two favorites right now are Lantern Season
and Onald Creely, as they tell full stories and are
a little strange and sad. However, Be a Zebra
may be the only one that still makes me laugh.
Do you ever find it hard to come up with a new idea for a story/joke?
I'm never short on comic ideas, but a lot of them never make it into a full strip because of this or that. Sometimes a joke may be funny, but not have any compelling visual elements. Likewise a story may be interesting, but be too serious or something like that to fit the tone of Dresden Codak. The writing process as a whole can often take as much time and the actual illustration, as I have to draw and thumbnail while I write to get an idea of how the ideas will flow.
